New Jersey v. Virginia.

Both states are very similar in population. Both are coastal states. And both have no major city but are the suburban neighbors to a large city.

New Jersey has Princeton.

New Jersey has more beach towns and a larger footprint of accessible beaches.

Jersey City blows Arlington out of the water.

New Jersey Transit is much more substantial than the small section of WMATA in NOVA.

So which East Coast state brings it.

New Jersey all day, every day. That said, NJ isn't for everyone and Virginia offers a more relaxed vibe overall if you're into that touch of Southern, laid back life.

Odd comparison. NJ is a very urban/suburban state. It has nowhere near the beauty, geographical variety and historic interest of VA. As Franklin said, NJ is a barrel tapped at both ends. Virginia is complete and autonomous.

NJ is a much smaller state and much more densely populated. That population is pretty unevenly distributed though, so there are places that are very peaceful and quiet as well as places that are very vibrant and urban. NJ's best selling points to me are its very long coastline and with every part of the state close to that coastline, sizable geographic variation in a fairly small area, great variety of towns and suburbs, pretty good state-wide transit system (though the southern parts can use a lot of beefing up, it's still better than what most other parts of the US has), and proximity to two great major cities.

Both are great.

But Virginia has much more natural beauty. NJ has better livability and access to transportation. It's food is better and it's education/healthcare system is great.

Very tough. I would say Virginia wins ever so slightly, due to natural beauty, being more laid back, and lower COL but NJ is great and probably wins on most fronts (public transit, walkability, beaches, proximity to major cities, schools, etc)

NOVA/Arlington is way richer than Jersey City. NOVA has more office space than any city not named New York. NOVA has more Fortune 500 companies. NOVA has better public schools. NOVA is safer, cleaner and looks better. NOVA has 2 airports. Metro kills any transportation in Jersey.

Do you have a listing of the number of Fortune 500 companies in Virginia and New Jersey?

Jersey City is one municipality within Hudson County within the larger Northern New Jersey region. Metro does have very good transit, but it doesn't reach much of the state. NJT, PATH, and PATCO does reach quite a bit of the state though overall service is very much lopsided towards Northern New Jersey. NJT Train operations have 165 stations in total with all but a handful in New Jersey proper. Where there's interlining with more than one train line or branch serving it, the frequencies can be decently high though it can also be pricey. The really unfortunate thing is that South Jersey doesn't get a bit more than it's pretty infrequent Atlantic City line.
