There is some housing in the town of Mt Charleston, NV; which is on the eponymous Mtn, but at 7,000ft rather than at the summit. It's like a slightly cooler Flagstaff (weather wise) and is 40 miles from the strip
From the Strip. But more like 20 miles and less than 25 minutes from the NW. So you can shop and get to civilization in less than 1/2 an hour.
And would agree that for some careers like heavy tech you would favor Phoenix over Las Vegas. For those without that sort of career or in a retired status it is not true.
