I knew New Rochelle was a fairly nice and relatively diverse suburban city, but I didn’t realize it was such a hotbed for Black affluence! That’s up there with the most upscale parts of Prince George’s County, I would think.
It has a mix, but there are areas of the city in its northern third/half or so that is very affluent and on par with adjacent Scarsdale. There is a decent black population in that area(about 11% or so). Wykagyl, Bonnie Crest, Bayberry, etc. are some of the neighborhoods in that part of town. A couple of census tracts in that area: https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...estchester-ny/
There are also other parts of the city just north of Downtown to the east and west of North Avenue that also has higher black percentages and with a good sized middle class.
In Boston, middle-class to wealthy blacks live where wealthy whites do. But with a concentration in the city and to the south.
For instance, immediately west of the city of Boston is the city of Newton MA has a median income of 150k and 88,000 people. https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...560-newton-ma/ Its 3% non-Hispanic non mixed-race black. So about 2500 black people.
I think you'll find those suburbs compare favorably or at least evenly to Philadelphias. I only included places with median household incomes above the state average.
There are large numbers of middle-class black people throughout Roxbury (Fort Hill, Elm Hill areas) the South End (south of Mass Ave and North of Melnea Cass), Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Eastern Roslindale, Southern Dorchester and Southern Mattapan. I believe Black family median income in Boston is like ~76k.
If I'm not mistaken, but this is probably the most affluent predominantly black census block group in the region, if correct(in New Cassel NY on Long Island): https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...203-nassau-ny/
All, except for the last block group are in the Westbury SD(last one is in the Hicksville SD primarily) and some likely go with private schools, such as those mentioned a few previous posts ago.
As you likely know, places/areas like northern and eastern Mount Vernon, western and northern New Rochelle, the town of Greenburgh(including the village of Elmsford and vicinity, the Parkway Homes/Parkway Gardens area, etc.); northern Peekskill, northern Pelham, parts of White Plains north and east of Downtown and the Runyan Heights neighborhood of Yonkers are some with quite substantial to predominantly black middle class areas in the county.
For Suffolk County, Wheatley Heights, the Belmont Park/northern West Babylon area, SE Deer Park, southern Greenlawn/western Elwood, Gordon Heights, SW Central Islip, parts of North Bellport, parts of North Amityville, parts of Sag Harbor and some other parts of the Hamptons are some examples in that county.
I've mentioned this area before, but here is some information about the Parkway Homes portion of the Parkway Gardens/Parkway Homes neighborhood, a predominantly black/middle class area in the town of Greenburgh just north of White Plains NY and in the Valhalla SD: https://www.city-data.com/forum/64678471-post9.html
Given that there is information by school district here are some in the region related to median household and family incomes for black residents using 2021 5 year US Census information.
