This topic reminded us, or at least me, of how unique DC is. It's one of the few cities with no obvious answer to the question, just some "kinda alike.." cities.

Neither DC or Baltimore are "Southern cities".

A lot of people still consider Mason Dixon line the border between North and South.

Which is a bit stunted in terms of evolution and usually those looking down their long thin noses at both cities from other Northeastern locales. In 1776, 200 miles (NYC to DC) was very much a great distance geographically/culturally, yet as most of us know no where near as variant in the 21st Century.

DC is a unique city, so it's hard to say. If I had to, I'd probably say a mix of Richmond and Baltimore, but even that's not a great comparison (because it excludes the unique monuments and other unique features).

I would say Richmond, VA is like a smaller, country version of DC.

Out of the choices, Boston for sure.

It's an urban city. How is it country?

San Francisco (minus the hills and obviously San Francisco’s downtown high rise area) did seem reminiscent of Washington. Lots of areas felt like DC and the rowhomes are ornate like DC sorta.

Out of the poll choices, I’d say Boston.

Baltimore seems very different than Washington. Even just the way it looks. It looks more like Philadelphia (minus the obvious size difference between their high rise areas.) They both have similar looking rowhomes that you can see go on and on.

Washington’s rowhomes look different, wayyy more trees, seems more spacey, there’s front “yards”. Baltimore feels more industrial. Inner Harbor doesn’t feel like anything in Washington (maybe National Harbor in MD? Obviously National Harbor being a cookie cutter area with no high-rises and Inner Harbor is a real part of downtown Baltimore but from a pedestrian level, they seem sort of similar)

I know Baltimore and Washington being in a topic together can be sensitive.... in my Uber, I was talking to my friend and said “2 of the housewives (of Potomac) live in Baltimore.” The Uber driver turned around so fast to ask “did you say Washington was better than Baltimore?” .... lol. It was sort of awkward because I’m not the kind of person to go around saying one place is better than another when I’m a visitor.... They’re close so they have a vested interest in eachother and overlap. But I’m just not seeing big similarities outside of regional cooperation.

Yeah culturally is very much Northern. But you know, definitions vary by person.
