Both of these states are rising stars in the past two decades with fast growing economies and populations.

Both are more similar than not, and are in total about the same population and GDP.

Therefore which state ranks ahead?? Arizona or Virginia??

I'd pick Arizona. If I ever lived out west again, that's where I'd end up. I like the wide open expansive scenery, the best hiking I've done anywhere (Sedona/ Grand Canyon/Saguaro NP), and I enjoy photographing its colorful landscapes. The weather is desirable most of the year with abundant sunshine, not too much humidity, and lots of micro climates where one can easily escape the heat in a hot desert valley and head up to the cool mountains and pine forests in Flagstaff in just two hours. Winter in southern AZ is warm and balmy and one can still go skiing up in Flagstaff with plenty of snow. I dig those contrasts.

For the listed criteria Virginia is going to destroy Arizona, it's just a lot more developed and established. But for quality of life, that's a personal thing not based on data. I love the scenery, climate, and wide array of things to do in AZ and the people are more on my wavelength. Anytime I start missing the west, Arizona is usually the state I start thinking about. Virginia is a nice state too with a lot to offer, but there are lots of other states on the East Coast that I prefer over it.

It was supposed to say Virginia there, but it was too late to edit it.
