I don't care for OKC but it's more of a peer to Memphis and Birmingham than it is Jackson.

Just because Oklahoma is better than Mississippi doesn't mean it's a great place to live.

Mississippi in general is one of those states I have never taken to. It’s down in the bottom of the barrel of places I like, along with much of the northeast, Indiana, and Louisiana. There’s nothing particularly nice there. The coast is the only kind of interesting part of the state.

That said, Oklahoma is a pretty middling place. Economically I think it has more potential than Mississippi, and while I don’t quite find Oklahoma pretty, it’s closer to that desert vibe I like than Mississippi is. OKC is a more happening place than Jackson. Even Tulsa feels more welcoming than Jackson. I think it’s a wash for secondary cities. Oklahoma has terrible roads - too many of them with tolls, as well - and too many cops patrolling them, though.

Both of these places are fairly low on my list of places to live, though.
I suspect from what I've read, that northeast Mississippi would be alright as well(i.e. Oxford which is home to University of Mississippi, and Tupelo which is Elvis' original birthplace). It seems like that area would probably be a hidden gem of a region to visit in Mississippi, though I've only gone through the southern Mississippi Gulf coastal area of those 2 regions. I remember years ago driving through Jackson on 55, and when we briefly exited the expressway, hate to say it but Jackson didn't look very nice to me. Maybe the suburbs of Jackson are a little better, though?

But yeah between these 2 states, I'd pick Oklahoma.

Yeah, the spot where my cousin lived (and her surviving family) was a bit East, in Pearl and Brandon. Nice enough suburbs, but still not that great. I think up until she was murdered I was willing to give Jackson the benefit of the doubt, but it’s a bit of a scar which won’t be healed by rational thought. Same for all of Mississippi, I don’t think I’ll ever honestly be able to give it a fair shake.

This is not true. Mississippi is certainly greener and prettier overall but Oklahoma is way more diverse geographically.

The fact that Oklahoma goes from about 500 feet to 4500 feet in elevation for starters. And while much of Oklahoma is plains, probably 50% of it is not and even the plains have some unusual features such as the Wichita Mountains, Gloss Mountains, Black Mesa, Great Salt Plains and Little Sahara to name a few.

Oh gosh, that's really sad to hear one of your relatives got murdered in the Jackson area. I remember in the past google street viewing both the city of Jackson and the suburbs, and it seemed very average in a lot of places. If I had to pick somewhere in Jackson area to live, I probably would pick one of the more north or east communities outside of the city of Jackson. I didn't see a lot of neighborhoods in the city of Jackson that looked like they might be decent, except for maybe the Fondren neighborhood.

Honestly though if I had to live in Mississippi, I'd probably consider somewhere in the northeast part of the state(i.e. Oxford or Tupelo), where I get the sense that the quality of life would be a little better. The Gulf coast region would probably be okay too, though to me I do like how Northeast Mississippi is near the Natchez Trace Parkway. Don't know if I ever would want to live anywhere in the Delta region from what I read about that area, but that's just me. Maybe some of the towns/cities in that region are okay(i.e. Natchez, Vicksburg, Greenwood, maybe also Clarksdale for its blues clubs), but to me those places seem like they'd be better to visit than live in.

Sorry for the loss, Yeah Mississippi does suffer a image problem, it's understandable

Perhaps you meant Glass Mountains, if not, never heard of Gloss Mountains

Little Sahara? What's that all about

I have family in Clarksdale, Actually my Grandma's Sister lived there, use to have thanksgiving dinners there growing up when I was a kid, I remember the adults going to the blues clubs as I was too young at the time.
My Step dad's family is from Tupelo , first time I ever rode a horse or 4 wheeler was in Tupelo, great Childhood memories there in NorthEast Mississippi...Holly Springs Included.
And Oxford, been there a couple of times and It is Really a nice Quaint little town for it's size, Large University Presence, Vibrant Town Square A Movie Cinema even has a Mall

I think on most comparison lists, OK comes out ahead. I personally prefer the Sipp though. Oxford is great- a bunch of the small river towns are neat; and I'm a big fan of Biloxi/Ocean Springs/Gulfport area.
I prefer the green rolling hills, beach and river towns of Mississippi.

Yeah Biloxi is Nice, I Like it too, Like the beach down there and the Good Sea Food there especially at the casino tho I'm not a gambler

What I never understood tho is Why Biloxi and Gulfport are Not One City? They Border Each other , In the Same County, in fact They're Both The County Seat ...Just Make em One City
If Gulfport and Biloxi Merged if Would give Mississippi it's Second 100,000 city and then Mississippi could say it has two big cities....BiloxiGulfportville AND Jackson, instead of just Jackson
