- Large percentage of people that identify as LGBT relative to the average
- Wide selection of gay bars/clubs. I can think of 10+ within the city core off the top of my head, which is pretty impressive for a city its size
- Has one of 15 of the only lesbian bars left standing in the US
- Has the 2nd largest pride festival in the midwest
My current city, Portland, is also known as a gay mecca, and even it doesn't have the selection of gay bars/clubs that Columbus has.
I think Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland are all pretty close overall. But Columbus probably has the best contiguous area of nightlife. Although I am not sure the best district per se would be in Columbus.
I think folks are underestimating Pittsburgh. I was on Carson Street in the Southside Flats in November 2019, and that is long, dense, vibrant nightlife strip. Pittsburgh also seems to have walkable commercials strips that go for miles and miles. I'm sure some of these are significant nightlife centers as well.
Very few cities in the US have any nightlife district that can rival the Southside flats in Pittsburgh. but it also has Shadyside, Oakland, North Side, Downtown, Strip District, and East Liberty. It also has (had) a pretty active underground culture and after hours nightlife culture, that I'm sure Columbus has no equivalent to. although I'm no expert on that city in Ohio I admit.
