Why is that odd? The suburbs of Georgia are beautiful and yards are spacious, but they are extremely inconvenient. The suburbs of the Southwest have 5' building side yard setbacks typically which defeats the whole purpose. Texas suburbs are in the middle of those two extremes.
I'm born Texan and I'll say most of the burbs in Texas are built conveniently built when it comes to amenities, etc. but I think a large percentage of them lack any kind of soul and character. While I think a burb like Plano ranks pretty high as far as what it has to offer in amenities I actually prefer the look of some of Atlanta's burbs compared to the top Texas burbs. I do think DFW has more options of competent suburbs than anything you'll find in the Piedmont region. Houston is a mixed bag and Austin and San Antonio are blah. But I do prefer Atlanta's best burbs over Texas best burbs(I consider DFW to have the cream of the crop). I also think cities like Charlotte and the triangle can hold their own against Austin and San Antonio burbs.

Agreed. Even the Triad, Greenville. Lots of preWar masonry homes and developments. The variation in land gives it an Appalachian/Mid Atlantic or even New Englandy feel in some regards.

I would agree with this.
Suburbs in the SW, and Texas (parts of Louisiana too) are not lacking in the amenities department, but the Piedmont burbs have a better aesthetic.
I’ve really wanted to ask this question for a while and I feel like this is the perfect thread to do that. Just to get this out the way, I don’t like American segregated use style suburbs at all. I think they’re all trash. If the point is to live in a quiet neighborhood with cheap large housing though, why would denser suburbs be better than low dense ones? Dense suburbs are just as unwalkable so if you had to choose dense housing in the city vs the suburbs, why would you choose the worse version of that? I can at least understand the reason why people would choose Atlanta like suburbs but what’s the point of dense sprawl that is just as unwalkable but without the benefit of large lots and beautiful landscapes?
Texas suburban housing is fairly cheap for the income of these places. Affordability along with its spacious interiors and large yards make me LOVE THEM.

Yeah at least in DFW there is the advantage of suburbs is there's a variety of an employment center spread throughout. You can be 40 miles from downtown Dallas but still have a variety of employment Fields within 15 to 20 minutes of where you live. Along with a selection of restaurants and entertainment within a short distance for a two or three hour getaway on a date night.

That's not unique to Dallas though.
I'd say that is naturally developing in most metros north 2.5-3 million.
In terms of layout and functionality, SW all the way.
In terms of appeal, scenery and character, Piedmont.
