Philadelphia needs to adapt what St Louis did last year decline in homicides starting first by electing a black female mayor similar to Tish Jones. Unlike LL who has feuded with the Cook county DA, Philly also needs a Black Female DA similar to Kim Gardener and first by looking at the root causes of homicides and crime in general.
And yes 23 for Chicago a man killed and 2 injured in Woodlawn yesterday
Philly already has a DA looking at the root causes of homicides and crime in general...actually, the Philly DA has prioritized this.
DC is more of a world class city than Philly but typically there's crickets when it's had a consistently high murder rate, which Philly has only recently surpassed. Philly isn't even above Miami as far as worldly prestige goes.
The only major cities that have murder rates congruent with their global prestige are NYC, SF, and Boston.
How about LA and yea I’ve noticed that people in America tend to focus on other cities more on murder rates than others. For example why is NYC on the news so much for crime when it’s murder rate is super low?
I get it that Philadelphia is struggling with homicides but come on! There is still some very nice neighborhoods in the city and most of it is due to personal beefs or drugs and not just Newark 05, gang related.
What is the total for NYC, LA for this year anyone? And ytd as well
I think a major problem is there is a real decent sized constituency that doesn’t care.
Lot of wealthy white liberals who move in pretend crime is actually a conservative propaganda campaign and not a real issue. While there is also a decent sized group of people who believe it’s a natural trade off of living in a city and a third group that thinks it just makes them tough to live in a high crime area.
This is a very good take on the situation. It applies to many cities I think.
Portsmouth is at 2 now after a teen boy shot near a high school. Also another for Norfolk after a man was shot inside a home, initially was reported as life-threatening injuries.
