4 killed on the first day of July. Two were in the Loop, as already mentioned; then a 17 year old girl was shot and killed in Little Village when a male on a bike pulled up on her; and lastly a man in his 20s in West Englewood.

Change that to five on the first day. A 24 year old woman was fatally shot last night in Chinatown. Also, one death so far today that occurred in South Chicago.

A 29 y/o man was shot to death in the downtown area of Suffolk last night. Brings their total to 7, already the highest the city has seen since 2013.

A man was shot and killed near some apartments in the Barberton neighborhood. It happened a few blocks away from where a woman was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries yesterday morning. Brings their total to 28.

June was actually not as bad as it's been for the last couple of years, but July is starting off very ominously with 6 murders in just 36 hours.

How is thus surprising to anyone??? It is a holiday weekend in the summer in Chicago. It’s surprising the total is that low. I would have guessed 20 but there’s still another day……

Unfortunately so....July 1st- 4th 2021 saw 21 murders and the year before that saw 19(12 of those happened on July 4th itself.) I knew this will happen. If I had go into the minds of the ones doing the shooting and killing, they are probably under the mindset that this is the best time to catch someone's guard down because people are celebrating with family and not only that the person they have a score to settle with predictably will be outside and about around this time, probably not thinking this may be their last hour.

yup, in their mind this is the perfect time to shoot. They know alot of people will mistake gunshots for fireworks, lots of people will be "lacking" due to the holiday, and tourist flood the city so they know CPD will be stretched thin to cater to downtown, thus leaving them free to wreck havoc in their hoods
