Through July of 2021, Buffalo was at 60
Through July of 2022, Buffalo is at 41

That's a 32% decrease, even including the 10 Tops mass murder victims. July had only 1 homicide reported in the city.

That's a 15% decrease. That does not fit the narrative that dangerous cities are getting more dangerous. At least for murders.
That's one exception, and also Philly. But Baltimore and NOLA are among the worst and are worse this year.

Through July 2022, Seattle is up 18% in homicides compared to the same period in 2021.
Through July 2022, Portland is down 10% in homicides compared to the same period in 2021.

Not a huge difference for these two cities.

St Louis at 102 following 2 separate shootings one in Hyde Park in the North side early this morning, and just recently by the Greyhound station downtown, a POI was taken to custody.
Question remains that will St Louis in August be a quiet one, or a violent one?

Because Boston is a substantially bigger MSA and the political city limits skew population metrics like homicide rate.

Boston has >2 million people in the same geographic size as SD.

My error.

2021 had 50 homicides by the end of July (not 60).

Actual decrease was 18% (not 32%).

Chicago-382

July ended with 67 homicides, -38% difference from 108 last year. Overall homicides and shooting victims are down 16% and 20%, respectively. On the flip side, other crimes such as robberies, burglaries, vehicle theft, and theft have seen a significant increase. Also, there have been 981 carjackings with more than half of the arrests being juveniles.
