I’m not understanding what you mean. Harris County grew by what?

Meaning that it not only saw growth in its black population, but the black percentage within the county increased as well.

I looked for zip codes in Houston with a Black population of at least 60%. These zip codes touch each other making a sizable area of Black people inside the loop. Some major takeaways, Houston seems to be attracting tons of educated females in these areas, but not many educated males.

I’m not being biased. Since the pandemic, Houston has become EXTREMELY popular amongst black tourists. Every other week, a new black spot is opening up. Houston has that similar ring that Atlanta had in the early 2000s. Social media has made Houston more popping. So much is coming to the black space.

Houston has a black grocery store on 1960 and 45, there’s a new black Wall Street mall on Richmond (between Fondren and Gessner), Almeda is booming with black owned businesses, and Emancipation is about to blossom with more black businesses.

Take it to Humble, which has been a sleeper for some time. Humble has opened up 5 new black clubs and lounges and 2 Caribbean restaurants in the last 1.5 years. Balmoral and Fall Creek are becoming blacker by the day.

1960 is bustling with new black businesses from bars, restaurants, and other businesses.

I saw on social media where people were saying how Houston and Atlanta are destinations for black folks. Dallas may be gaining black people, but Houston’s is leading it by its popularity, culture, and offerings.
The black tourism surge in Houston is absolutely insane right now - when I'm out and about in black spaces here I feel like at least 3/4 of the people I randomly meet are tourists. I was just commenting about how much its different from growing up when people seemed to only come here when they had to. Nearly every month (especially in the non-summer months) I'm hosting friends from out of town who are visiting.

There's always been a strong black culture here, but it's just on an entirely different level compared to even a decade ago. Agree that there's a lot of that buzz here like there was in Atlanta 15-20 years ago.

I looked at the block groups in 4th Ward. These are the block groups with a sizable Black population. Each of them are about 50% Black.

Fourth Ward Black Group 1

Total Population = 1,328 people
Black Population = 680 people
Black Percentage = 51.2%
Land Area = 0.2 square miles
Density = 6,419 people per square mile

Fourth Ward Block Group 2

Total Population = 826 people
Black Population = 426 people
Black Percentage = 51.6%
Land Area = 0.1 square miles
Density = 9,268.7 people per square mile

Here are some street views around 4th Ward in Houston

4th Ward Street View

4th Ward Street View

There are some pretty stark racial divides with some census block groups having between 0% Black people - 6% Black people in the 4th Ward. It will be interesting to see which way the neighborhood turns. I assume it will become more diverse hopefully if Black professionals are moving here.

Does anyone know how Dallas compares to Houston? What areas and neighborhoods do Black professionals dominate in Dallas?

I hope no one discredits us because folks think I hate Dallas. Lol.

It’s so true that Houston has a buzz right now. It’s only going to get bigger from what’s going to open up in the pipeline. The blackness is alive and well in Houston. I’m loving it!!!

Most of those places are in the hood. Lol. Also, Midtown is about 30% from when I checked.
