Some more data on immigration. This is based on period of time when immigrants came. Ill stick to urban area. I look at the numbers from who entered from 2000-2010 and 2010-2021 by region. I used the cut off mark of 350,000 immigrants.

Maybe my eyes are tired, but it appears that Miami is the only metro where there were more immigrants from Europe than Asia since 2010. For a major metro area, Miami has a tiny Asian population.

I noticed that too! Florida seems very popular with Europeans and non-Mexican Latinos. Asian population of Florida is just 3% and the majority of those are Indians.

Also kind of surprised that Philly has more immigrants than Minneapolis

Another one that was eye catching was the significant drop of Mexico immigration the past ten years. Even LA barely had over 100k. While still a sizable number, it is a big drop.

Despite what we hear about southern metros in GA, TX, FL gaining many Caribbean immigrants- Boston has retained its #3 spot by doubling its Caribbean immigrant population, putting even more space between it and Tampa and Orlando.

It also nearly doubled its Asian immigration numbers from 2000-2010 to 2010-2021

Some of my posts above were deleted and I get why, but just for the sake of relevance to this topic, the question was asked if Texas, Florida, and Arizona busing migrants to NYC, Chicago, and DC will change long term trends in terms of immigration to those states. The data laid out clearly shows it will not. That is the only relevant question regarding that topic so we can leave it at that. We shouldnt discuss it beyond that.

I think the reason Minneapolis stands out more is because it has the largest immigrant populations of unique groups. Its the largest Somalia, Lao, and Liberian populations in the US and has the 2nd largest Ethiopian, Thai, and Kenyan populations. Philly has a lot more immigrants but the communities are much more common (Indian, Chinese, Dominican, etc.).

Boston doesn't often get the credit it deserves for its immigrant draw, IMO, because while it's a very ethnically diverse urban area it is not a racially diverse urban area. I would also point to the fact that there isn't one overwhelming group. Even a very ethnically diverse place like NYC has overwhelming numbers from the Dominican Republic and China.

Boston is definitely a massive destination for immigrants from Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and other West Indian nations.
