Syracuse has a lot of potential. Could use a dozen 30 to 40 story modern apartment highrises to update the skyline though.

It doesn’t need that many. It just needs to improve on some of the neighborhoods first and maybe even market itself better. Then, the rest will follow.

It probably has the best selection of suburbs in Upstate. The Northway corridor on I-87 has a string of nice areas between Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs. The three cities (Albany/Troy/Schenectady) have an East Coast meets Rust Belt vibe.
No, Rochester has the best selection of suburbs in Upstate NY -- Pittsford, Spencerport, Fairport, Webster, Honeoye Falls, Scottsville, Irondequoit, etc.

It is debatable, as the Albany area does have its share of solidly to upper middle class suburbs like Niskayuna, Bethlehem, Clifton Park, Guilderland, much of Colonie and East Greenbush.

While the Capital District has some decent suburbs, I think if Brighton, Penfield, Victor, and Greece are also included the nod would go to Rochester. I always felt that Syracuse has nice suburbs, and that it’s and Rochester’s have a similar vibe and feel to one another’s, more so than any other pairings of upstate cities.

Yes, those are nice. I mention the Albany suburbs because a few like Niskayuna, Bethlehem and Clifton Park are either some of the most affluent towns or fastest growing towns Upstate.

Also, Saratoga County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and I believe the fastest growing Upstate. That county is in the Albany metro area. So, I thought about that as well.

Then, there is this…Capital Region leads upstate with housing unit growth: https://wnyt.com/top-stories/wnyt-up...g-unit-growth/

As for Syracuse suburbs, the Eastern suburbs, particularly the Jamesville-DeWitt and Fayetteville-Manlius school districts are a couple of the more relatively affluent suburban school districts in Upstate NY. You do have other suburbs/communities like Onondaga Hill(Westhill and to a lesser degree Onondaga Central/West Genesee/Marcellus SDs), Radisson(a planned community in the town of Lysander/Baldwinsville SD), Skaneateles(a Finger Lake community), Cazenovia(another lakeside community in Madison County) and parts of other towns/SDs are upper middle class to legitimately affluent(think lakeside properties on Skaneateles Lake).

I haven’t seen enough of those on the list yet to say, but I can say that the big three in WNY aren’t it.
