I would choose San Francisco over Los Angeles because SF is much more urban.

same reason... also like the general culture better, better public trans, strong asian influence (chinatown), prefer the setting better as well and awesome parks within quick driving distance , wine country, abalone diving, better job market for myself (IT/public policy/economics) are my specialties. LA can also get scorching hot (one reason I'm leaving Florida) and is much more polluted...not really down with that.

Los Angeles.

Its far more exciting than S.F.
4 times the people so a lot more diversity, culture and aspects that only come with millions of people in a city.
Endless Entertainment
Excellent Nightlife
Cusine that a lifetime could not digest
HOLLYWOOOOOOOD - the place not the industry
Beaches
Perfect Weather
Proximity to Las Vegas
...did I mention endless entertainment?

San Francisco is probably my favorite city in the country. It seems to be a mix of everything. It is very urban and has many east coast qualities. Then depending where in the city you are, you can also get that California feel. In South Beach near AT&T Park(Giants Stadium), there are palm trees up and down the street.

I love LA as well, but I think San Francisco just suits me a bit better. The weather is definitely better in LA though. I disagree with grapico. I don't think that it is scorching hot at all. It depends on where you live. LA is a large city. Half of LA stays cooler because of the ocean.

San Francisco...I much prefer the city life and being able to take and hour flight to LA and stay Downtown or Santa Monica or any of the other endless great places when I feel like it..but living in SF and living in LA is much different.
And in SF I'm right there for weekend trips in Napa,Sonoma,Bodega Bay,Tahoe..etc.,etc..

Anything over 80 with humidity or 85 w/o humidity is too hot for my tastes.
LA regularly gets over 100.

I've lived in both, and - this still amazes me - I'd go with LA. SF is fabulous and I love the diversity and its neighborhoods (and beautiful setting and parks), but LA has a bigger city feel - not to mention a more affordable price tag.
