Those cities with names of Native American origin are coolest (Chicago, Milwaukee, Seattle etc.)

After that come those with mythic, epic sounding names of Greek, Latin and Egyptian origin (Memphis, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Phoenix <actually near-easten in origin> etc.)

After that come those of French (Detroit, New Orleans etc) and Spanish (Los Angeles, San Francisco, El Paso, San Antonio, Las Vegas etc) origin as well as any other cities with "ethnic" sounding names which have not already been covered.

Least cool of all are cities with unoriginal and or ambiguous names of Anglo-Saxon/English origin (New York, Portland <Oregon, named on a coin toss after Maine's largest city, was almost named "Boston"> Washington etc) as well as those of that origin whose names are used to describe a large sprawling region (Boston, Houston, Dallas, Cleveland, Baltimore etc)

boston and houston are two names i've always disliked. they just sound so dull and plain and look even more boring
seeing this post reminded of how often i see atlantans playing around with the city name like: vtlvntv, atnalta, or @+l@n+@
...the coolness of that name just has no limits lol

For me it is Philadelphia. That name just sounds colossal to me. Then you break it down to its origin Philos and Adelphos. It just sounds powerful/passionate to me. Los Angeles, Miami, and New Orleans would come next, they sound the most exotic to me when pronounced right. I also like how the latter two appear to just hang off the edge of the world surrounded by nothing.

How does that make any of those sound less cool? I have never thought of Boston, Cleveland, Or Baltimore as describing large sprawling areas, though.

I think Phoenix is by far the coolest city name, but it wasn't an option.
