No city with "New" is appealing.
I thin "Orleans" and "York" would sound much better.

Same for any area within a CMSA/MSA or commuter sheild but outside the large central city where people say that's where they live/are from, especially when the vast majority who say that are from well outside that city. Some examples: I have a cousin who says she lives in Chicago but actually lives closer to Rockford IL. People refer to Kings Island (Mason OH) being in Cincinnati when it's halfway to Dayton and closer to Middletown. I've even heard of people refering to Steubenville, OH as being in "Pittsburgh!"

Then you have the places whose names are kind of lousy to begin with whose names are used to describe an entitre end of a state (e.g. Eastern Massachusetts - "Boston;" Northern Delaware State - "Wilmington;" Western Pennsylvania - "Pittsburgh.")

Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles et al are only cool names when used to describe the actual city.

Do people call it that in Houston, I get the reference but if anything to me it would be Oil City - I honestly must say outside of this forum and folks from Houston/Texas on here I have never heard Houston reffered to as such

I hear the Big D for Dallas, but never space city - for some reason that alway makes me think of Disney and Houston

Space City is Houston's official nickname & is on the side of every emergency vehicle in the city, its even on the arm patches of their uniforms.

Everyone knows Houston is home to NASA. The astronauts train & live here. Mission Control is here. The rockets sit dormant in Cape Canaveral ready for us to push the button on this side of the pond. Everything research wise happens in Houston. If Mission Control ever broke down they would be up a **** creek without a paddle literally...& trust me it has happened and its not a pretty sight.

Even Nike recognizes Houston as Space City with our own shoe to pay homage to the space program while also making a basketball shoe.
