For overall uncleanliness I would have to go with NYC. When I first rode the subway there I felt an immediate urge to go back to the hotel & bathe in bleach. The smelly trash along the sidewalks was also a major turn off.
For me, Chicago was like a cleaner version of New York.

When did you come here?
Well, when the population density is like 30,000/sq. mile, it wouldn't be the cleanest city with the highest density. It's common sense. You'd be surprised how much cleaner it's gotten compared to the 80s.
^^ Obviously 7,000 weren't shot as these hood rats have the WORST aim I've been trying to find the article that spoke about the 7,000 reported shootings, it had a map and everything.
LOL My dude, I lived in DC.. the crime is practically the same.
Midwest typically has been the worst when it comes to cities and crime. Detroit, Cleveland, Youngstown, St Louis, Flint, Gary, etc, etc,
Most Deadly cities for 2009:
1 New Orleans, LA 2 Camden, NJ 3 Detroit, MI 4 St. Louis, MO 5 Oakland, CA 6 Flint, MI 7 Gary, IN 8 Birmingham, AL 9 Richmond, CA 10 North Charleston, SC 11 Cleveland, OH 12 Baltimore, MD 13 Miami Gardens, FL 14 Memphis, TN 15 Youngstown, OH 16 Atlanta, GA 17 Compton, CA 18 Orlando, FL 19 Little Rock, AR 20 Minneapolis, MN 21 Washington, DC 22 Philadelphia, PA 23 Jackson, MS 24 Newark, NJ 25 Milwaukee, WI
Hmm.. Where's DC and Balitmore? Below Cleveland.. like it's been for the last 5 years. Don't even get me started on how much NICER DC looks then Cleveland... I see 4 east coast cities compared to Midwests 7.
Heck, couple years ago Ohio had 4 cities in the top 25 alone.

I was in NYC last August & Chicago just this past March.
Irving Park in Chicago was quite the culture shock. Granted, that's not saying much, because I haven't been much of a traveler until the last few years. But I'd never seen the sheer number of bums and homeless people loitering at an interstate exit! My wife had me give one of them ten bucks to get them to leave us alone. Probably the worst areas I've seen, for different reasons, are the small towns in Kansas that look more like ghost towns. Bronson, KS (about two hours S of Kansas City) looks like a town in which 2,000 people just up and left in one day. I've never been to Treece, KS/Pitcher, OK, but I would imagine that is even worse than Bronson. FWIW, they're not bad because of crime/vandalism like in the big cities, but it's sad to drive through and know that the towns were once thriving and now are just poor and unlivable.

I'm going with the other poster and asking when was this?
My 1st time going to NYC was in the late 80s to early 90s, it was much dirtier back then. I'm talking the subway system, streets, sidewalks, empty lots, sides of buildings (graffiti), etc. The subway stops in the bad areas were horrible, and even the good areas were pretty dirty.
NYC definitely isn't perfect now but I'm impressed at how far the city has come in cleanliness and crime.
The worst city overall I've ever seen is probably Camden, NJ. Some other bad ones are Chester, PA, Detroit, and East Cleveland. Worst areas were North Philly, Eastside of Cleveland, westside of Chicago some of the southside like Englewood.

Here are a few cities violent crime rate. I'm not sure how this proves that East Coast makes Cleveland or the midwest look safe. LOLOL!
