You should of put Oakland on that list....it has a pretty bad rep here in California even though I think Richmond is way worse.

You can blame the annual most dangerous cities lists which have been and continue to be seriously misinterpreted as the cities with the highest per capita murder rates. Detroit is the perfect example of this. It has the worst reputation of any major city even though it hasn't led major cities in per capita murder rate since 1987. From 1988 to 2009 only D.C. and New Orleans have actually led major cities in per capita murder rates. The city of Detroit should file a lawsuit against CQ Press as it has made no attempts to clarify most dangerous from most murderous which is why most people think Detrot has been the murder capital every other year over the years.

and most people don't take into account that the DPD does not give annual reports until the very end of the year. They only release some stuff to the media throughout the year so you wouldn't really know our crime rate until the end. Plus until recently (which you can count the reccession, housing slump, unemployment etc as being factors of why) Detroit's crime actually decreased.
