Being a crowd that has certain expectations of major cities, what did you expect posters on this forum to think of Houston? To be frank, it doesn't fit most people's bill of what a city it's size should be like when you compare it to other cities it's size. Some may like that, but lots more will not.

From what I have read, most people on this site like Houston. Where it becomes underrated is when certain people scoff at the cultural amenities, cosmopolitan feel and diversity. I don't even live there but visit 3X a year and it competes in almost every area with the other top tier cities.

I don't think many here do dislike it. But that's beside the point. The point is whether people rate it very highly. And most people in the General US/City v City don't tend to rate it very highly compared to it's peer cities because it's so unlike it's peer cities.

The only real difference is public transportation and density and due to when the city started to boom this is pretty usual for cites that are newer. So basically cities like Houston or Dallas suffer because of when they grew from the small CD community

Which is why it's underrated here. Usually cities that are that large have been around for a while and don't suffer these problems. Houston is the largest city we have where most of the development is recent. So since it's large, people will compare it to Chicago, New York, etc. But since it's new, it'll fall short in the urban purist view.
