In any way save historically, California. They're responsible for a good chunk of what we eat, watch, and think.

Tie

I would say California, but right now unfortunately it is having alot of financial troubles. So right now, it is a tie between California and Texas

California. It's simply too big a piece of our economy and culture to ignore.

California's not the only place having financial troubles...and even with it's trouble's, CA is still by far the single most influential state in the US.

Think from another perspective. It has the most serious financial problems partly because it is the biggest economy. If there is a problem in the US economy, California will certainly feel the most overall. It lost the most jobs partly because it created the most jobs in the past.

That dosen't necessarily make sense. TX has the second biggest economy, but yet were doing better than a majority of the US.

I say California, but TX coming in close!

This is kind of hard because Cali is mostly technology/entertainment/ports while Texas is mostly Energy/Ports/Oil
