You are right, I feel sorry for the many that can not escape Florida. Many are stuck there and can not leave because they are in utter poverty now and many of the jobs pay so low that it is impossible to save enough to leave. I have a highly educated friend that lives in Orlando that is stuck there because his $12 and hour "professional" banking job does not allow him to save money. But the worst are the poor families now stuck in tent cities. I truly hope that they are able to leave and move to a state where they can provide a better life for their families and where their skills will pay an acceptable wage.
What you don't realize is a lot of people move to Florida when they become homeless from different states. Florida does not have an abundence of tent cities because of its own economy. The homeless move here so they don't freeze to death in the winter up north.

I got a similar message. It says: "shut up, shut the F up you stupid person. Florida is sooooo much nicer than that huge dump called NYC. Everybody knows it. If you don't you are in denail. Loser-TB FLA"
Wow...
Btw, I'm excited for you next weekend. Have a great time in Greece and Turkey as well. Are you going to Santorini?
I must add that our insurance rates have increased over 300% in just 6 years.....yet here we are bailing out insurance companies with taxpayer monies......what a travesty! But the drop in equity in the Sarasota market is truly astounding...I think(I may be off on number) we are in the top 5 as far as percentage of house equity lost the past few years......the bubble really BURST in Sarasota.

That is the number one reason people are starting to move away from FL.

It's easy to bundle up in the winter. My students don't have heat in their apartments. They put on a jacket and it's no big deal. They complain about having no AC more than wearing a jacket in their house in the winter. There's only so many clothes you can take off, you know
We renovated our house in February and torn down the back of our house. We didn't freeze to death.
