I'd take the Pixies over any band from Boston or Houston.

edit: (I mean, I went on Wednesday. It was great. But you really think one of the biggest acts in the world coming to a major city means Boston has a good "scene". 67 year old Brits from the greatest band of all time are not making the local music scene significant.)

The Boston area historically has produced a number of rock bands of different genres, some great (Mission of Burma), some good (The Cars, Dinosaur Jr, Modern Lovers), some overrated (Aerosmith, the Pixies), and some boring but popular (the band Boston), but it has a long, rich history. Houston really doesn't have a remotely comparable history.

I am baffled by the fact that Houston has any votes. Boston has one of strongest music scenes in the world. Aside from all of the artists Bostonian08 posted, Boston has a very strong underground community not affiliated with any of there top notch schools. I know in terms of hardcore and metal music, Boston pumps out bands.

Good point... I swear most of those votes are probably those from Texas. Remember, TX is over-represented on this site.
