[quote=*Sweetkisses*;10594708]I feel like the insults are coming from both sides. Its really childish. But there are some posters here who are suprised to believe that there are people out there that find Philly to be a great city.[/quote My opening post acknowledged they were both great cities...but it was twisted and went downhill after that, after dragging my dead father into a demographic debate; I realized what I was dealing with and have stayed at a distance, since noone will agree on what constitutes each city, let alone debate city amenities...pros and cons...you have not had the "pleasure" of reading the deleted posts.

Not too sure where you got your numbers from but according to Forbes, in 2005 Philadelphia had 27.7 Million visitors total while San Francisco only had 15.8 Million. I don't know why you are only including foreign visitors. IMO Philly has A LOT more to see tourist-wise than San Fran. I though San Fran was a great city when I visited but it seems the number one tourist destination was the Golden Gate Bridge and in all honesty I wasn't very impressed. There are many beautiful suspension bridges in NYC and Philly. No disrespect, I just didn't see the massive appeal.

to get a non us centric opinion.

in my personal experience on these things, the national lists are often deceptive b/c of airport hubs, business trips and conventions, not tourism to actually see and spend money in the city...

do you really think more people are taking vacations to philly than sf? :I

here is the data sets...and it is for tourist arrivals

I wish I knew; especially if you like both and speak well of both cities; and we all can find something about any given city that we do not like.

But the people who are adamantly opposed to Philadelphia seem to do so in a most vindictive way. Those with the opposite viewpoint have been more civil. Just my opinion...but I think I am "echoing" some of your thoughts???? and of course in my humble opinion.

I'm from FL originally so really don't care, but I def see why more people prefer SF to Philly. I mean I would prefer Geneva Switzerland over Philly...I prefer Philly over Tampa for example (I have decades of exp with) It is a quality over quantity thing, so bigger, older is absolutely not always better (at least in my mind). The sooner people get over their provincialism the better. It is not an east coast/west coast thing either, just city vs. city. I prefer nyc over sf for example as a pure city. But SF probably has better quality of life, its in a world class growing and wine region comparable to southern france/spain/italy... hard to beat the location, scenery, climate.
From an outside perspective, foreign tourists skip right over lets just say Oakland or Sacramento and head to SF, just like they skip right over Philly for NYC.
Sof i you want to see the worlds opinion by their $ and where they chose to go... sf is 3rd in the u.s. behinc nyc and la... philly is like 15. sf is usually around 2mil philly is about 500k...

nyc
la
sf
orlando
miami
las vegas
dc
chicago
boston
san diego
atlanta
houston
san jose
seattle

just looking at the 2006 #'s all had more foreign visitors than philadelphia, so is the entire planet biased
against philadelphia? or is it just cd posters... ;I
so many people in the world hating on philly and picking other cities to go visit..
This post illustrates something a very interesting observation.

It seems to me that San Francisco is much more popular abroad than it is domestically. I've traveled everywhere and sometimes it seems that foreigners have a more accurate view of what SF is like than people here in the US.

well they usually go to world class cities if u look at that list, high refinement, high amenities. Had been out several times before but only living shortly and it is easy to see it is a completley different lifestyle than rest of u.s.. Maybe they view that as bad, but there is definitely a quality over quantity mindset... Numbers can be skewed, and people can talk of how it is different but, numbers are usually a pretty good unbiased way of looking at it though minus everybodies opinion, same reason i used how many people from the world are actually going there.
I mean 12 of the most expensive 50 zip codes in the U.S. are in the bay area.
thats 25% of the united states wealthiest zip codes, bay area only represents 2% of the u.s. population.
also the population is extremely educated, #1 in the nation among big cities
only thing higher among ANY city is fairfield county and boulder...
from being in other areas it makes a huge difference in the type of people you meet and what goes on.

I can't really take you serious when you say that you don't find the Golden Gate Bridge impressive and compare it to Philly bridges..I mean come on. Also it's San Francisco not San Fran If you feel the need to abbreviate than SF is ok...San Fran ehh not so much. I hate to sound like a snob but really I am helping you out lol, its just so corny sounding
