I am not white. I am black. How is pulling stats to correct a false statement being defensive? Should we just rely on anecdotal evidence for everything?

Chicago is segregated. Nobody is denying that. I feel it is more segregated based on socioeconomic status than race. The same is true in almost every major city in the US. NYC is a segregated city as well, maybe not as much as Chicago, but still strongly segregated nonetheless.

I am a black resident of Chicago. I live on the North Side. I feel I am treated like a 1st class citizen. Have you ever been to South Africa? I do not think you have based on the ignorant comment, as they are nothing alike.

Good luck in New York, I hope you find what you are looking for.

What do you care anyway?

You've been talking trash the entire thread about blacks in Chicago.

Quite the NYC tag team! You'd think living in NYC, there would be so many other things you could be doing!

I agree Chicago is a white city.

I read a lot of the upscale Chicago related Magazines and free newspapers and you very rarely see any stories about blacks. Almost never.

Chicago is just another mid western TOWN in my opinion. I am not a native and I cannot wait to get the hell out of this TOWN after 4 years.

This is one place I never have to return to.
now this is a post i can kinda agree with. Honestly, no offense to the people in lincoln park but it seems like they live in a totally different world. Hell, even look @ some posts from some random chicagoans. They ussually will tell you "oh its pretty safe, crime is only an issue in a few places" but the truth is crime is a big effin issue. If it wasnt we would not be seeing, father pfleger, jesse jackson, the mayor and the parents of blair holt all the time in a STOP THE VIOLENCE march. There's marches like those pretty much once evreyother week. . Im not blaming yuppies for this but you cant just beat around the bush when it comes to these issues

You are correct that none of these areas have tons of white people, but the point is that you will see white people in all these places

In contrast, you won't on 95th Street on the South Side of Chicago.

Chicago has 100% black Census tracts. Most of the neighborhoods you mentioned in Brooklyn are about 60% black, with large Latino populations. In the case of Bed Stuy, the white population has tripled in recent years, and is quite substantial.

In the case of the Bronx, there is only one majority black neighborhood, in the Northeast Bronx.

And, again, diversity is NOT just black-white. It is many other things. And if you look at NYC blacks, they are from all over the place.

Most blacks in Brooklyn are not African American; they are West Indian. Take a walk in Flatbush or Crown Heights. Almost everyone is from the West Indies, with some West Africans and some African Americans.

Maybe to you it isn't diverse because you see mostly black folks, but people are from Jamaica, Haiti, Barbados, Trinidad, Aruba, and many other places. NYC also has a much higher proportion of residents from West Africa.

In contrast, Chicago blacks are overwhelmingly African Americans from the South. Not very diverse, and not comparable at all. If I walk down 95th Street in the South Side of Chicago, I cannot find a roti stand, jerk chicken, coco bread, etc. In almost any NYC black neighborhood, you will find these things.

Yup, right on schedule with more lies...

Here's the truth. Chicago Latinos are 90% Mexican. I am Mexican and I only hear Mexican Spanish in Chicago. And they are all from one state in Mexico (Michoacan). They are all from within 100km of Morelia, MX. Not really all that diverse (though at least the food from that part of Mexico is pretty good).

In NYC, there are Latinos from every Latin country on earth, and no dominant Latino group. In fact, there is no group with even one quarter of the Latino population.

National Backgrounds of NYC Residents Identifying as Hispanic or Latino (Self-Identification to Surveyer)

Source: 2007 NYC Housing and Vacancy Survey (U.S. Census)

Puerto Rican- 22%
Dominican Republic- 18%
Mexico- 14%
Colombia- 11%
Ecuador- 9%
Peru- 9%

NYC also has large numbers of Cubans, Venezuelans, and from every single Latino country in Central America. Chicago does not have large numbers of residents from any of these countries.

Also, the NYC Latino population is growing more diverse by the day. Ecuadorians are the fastest growing group, and the PR and DR population is staying about the same, so the numbers will be even equal in the coming years.

LOL, no! Chicago does not have many PRs. You never hear PR Spanish in Chicago. There are more Puerto Ricans in Florida, in Philly, and throughout the Northeast. Even Orlando has more PRs.

LOL! Yeah, all those South Americans in Rogers Park! Sure thing, we believe you!

All those blacks in Rogers Park, and the Jews/Indians in West Rogers Park are just lies from the Census!

There's really a secret community of invisible Chileans and Argentines! The African Americans are just holograms to throw off the Census takers!
My data was taken from the Center for Latin American, Caribbean & Latino Studies at New York's CUNY.

http://web.gc.cuny.edu/lastudies/lat...ity%202007.pdf

You can see data there.

Chicago has the second-largest Puerto Rican population of any United States City.
This fact is known and proclaimed by every credible source. Google this fact right now.

And actually, it's only 79% Mexican (9% Puerto Rican) in Chicago.

Mexicans do predominate...but guess what, there are latinos from all over as well. Yeah, no Colombians or Central Americans in Chicago...riiiight.

Do you ever hang out/have you ever been to the Puerto Rican areas on the Northwest side? Or other latino areas on the north side of Chicago...probably not...

What are some nice suburbs in the Chicago area that are mostly Black or have a relatively high Black population? I can only think of places like Country Club Hills, Evanston and Oak Park. In the NYC area, places like most of Mt. Vernon, Lakeview, Wheatley Heights, Baldwin, Valley Stream, White Plains, Elmsford, Nyack and New Rochelle, among others. That's not including the towns nearby in NJ and CT either.

I agree with Lakal. The Dominant group in NYC of Hispanics is Puerto Ricans. So please stop with the lies. Then comes Dominicans. So yeah LAKAl is right that you are lying.

I don't really see too many white people walking around in these neighborhoods....and of course diversity is more than black or white (that's why I mentioned the South Bronx).

For at least two of those neighborhoods, your claims are false.

East Flatbush:
As of 2000 U.S. Census there 84,498 people living in East Flatbush, with 29,242 housing units. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, the demographics were 91.4% Black or African American, 4.9% Hispanic or Latino, 3.1% White, 1.0% Asian, 0.2% Native American, 1.6% were some other race and 2.6% were two or more races.

Brownsville:
85.6% Black or African American, 13.9% Hispanic or Latino, 3.6% White Not Hispanic, 0.6% Asian, 0.4% Native American, 6.0% other and 3.7% were two or more races.

Southwest Chicago has a much bigger population of whites than the surround South Side; there are white and Asian neighborhoods on the south side; there are areas with huge hispanic populations, especially on the Southeast side of Chicago.
