I give it to Miami, but it's mainly due to the water. But very close, almost too close to call.

Like everything else (and not saying I don't agree with you), I think it just comes down to a matter of taste.

If you're more into exclusively modern architecture and consistently-tall towers (combined with a nice beachfront setting), then obviously Miami is going to be your choice. But if a more traditional (and dare I say, complex), skyline with a mix of ages, heights and a many different architectural styles (on a dual-riverfront setting), then Philadelphia is the clear winner.

this is very true and fair. Both are actually fairly remarkable - Miami from the water - off-shore is very impressive both night and day for the seemingly continuous string of high rises.

Philly has more of central cluster very dense with very tall modern structures and many gorgeous variations of architecture that are compressed. To me they are hard to compare

What would be interesting is if you combined the two you might have layout more similar to Chicago with a central cluster (chicago still larger) and a linear coast like the north side of Chicago

Miami has more highrises... and that's it. Philly has taller towers, better architecture, it looks denser and more compact and put together. It looks as if it is a real mixed use downtown with hotels, office buildings and residential buildings all mixed in together, where Miami clearly looks like an overgrown resort town.

Miami's skyline is a resort skyline. I will never consider Miami or Honolulu as having REAL SKYLINES. It's just a bunch of resort condos that are kinda tall. Miami's skyline sucks copared to the real skylines of other cities
