Actually, Dayton really has a good nightlife scene for a city of its size.

The obvious winner is Ann Arbor, MI.

If you mean 100K to 300K in the entire metro area, then probably a college town like Lincoln, NE, or a resort town focused on skiing or beachgoing.

Syracuse can be good in terms of the Arts, has a few areas with Bars/Clubs and has some sporting events. Rochester isn't too bad either.

Appleton, Wisconsin is a city of 80,000 in a metro of 350,000. College Avenue serves as Northeast Wisconsin's main hub of nightlife and culture. Appleton has a much better nightlife scene than neighboring Green Bay and even better than the much larger Madison.

Pasadena, CA but that's part of a much larger metro.

St. Louis? It's a bit over 300,000 city proper.
