I don't get the whole Neiman Marcus thing...how does that make a city more stylish? Nordstrom is its equal. So is Barneys. So is Saks. So is Bloomingdales. They're department stores located in many locations across the country. Those stores alone don't make a place any more fashionable.

Reason: off topic
Interesting fact that the ONLY famous New York Department stores to still have their HQ's there are Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue. Saks USED to be HQ'd in Birmingham, AL - but have returned after a recent buyout.
Macy's & Bloomingdales answer to HQ's in Cincinnati.
Bergdorf Goodman answers to HQ's in Dallas.
Nordstrom answers to HQ's in Seattle.
Barneys New York answers to HQ's in Dubai.
Wow. Two whopping HQ's out of all these old-line iconic (formerly) New York companies. I guess it really is survival of the fittest.
^Exactly, krudmonk. Some of them live and die by the perceived "importance" of the place. It's gone beyond delusional.
It's quite odd, in fact. In my opinion, I live in the greatest city in the world. However, the day I start thinking I am better/more important/cultured/blahblahblah than someone else because I live in a kick ass city...you can just slap me in the face.
So sorry, but you still come in a distant second ahead of London.
