It could be a number of reasons. Economy, way of life, traffic, crime.... even the weather could be the reason.

Jobs and affordability. At least that's why so many people are moving to Texas. I would assume people assume people are leaving places for lack of jobs and affordability.

Its easy. One list shows the states that lost the most residents and FL lost about 31,000. And then the other list is how many new residents they gained at the same time. Even though FL lost 31,000 people they still gained enough at the same time to be one of the biggest gainers.. get it?

The biggest total population gainers? Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Washington state. The common thread among the winners is that they have fast-growing cities with satellite suburbs, fueled by boomers and empty-nesters move back to spruced-up downtowns. Texas, for example, claims three major urban centers that are all working to make their neighborhoods more transit and pedestrian-friendly and revitalize their downtowns. Texas is the fastest growing state! Gaining 478,000 residents!
Not to be disagreeable...but Florida is listed in BOTH categories...I think it is losing population... .
