I was in dt LA tonight and saw at least 6 new restaurants coming soon. The 7th & Fig project with a new Target is u/c. The Broad Museum of Comtemporary Art is u/c which is moving fast next to Disney Hall. The ice skating ring is going up at Pershing Square. Stopped to take a look at the Wilshire Grand Hotel which will be demolished in January to make way for the giant Wilshire Grand Project. Things are looking up.
I really love your LA pictures. I do think its downtown definitely gets lost in the discussion of the typical top downtowns -- I was impressed when I visited a couple years back.
With more population concentration and investment in public transportation, I think DTLA will be a great urban core.

Great photos. We took a downtown L.A. walking tour starting at Pershing square earlier this year, it was awesome. I am an architect so really enjoyed all the Historic Beaux Arts, Art Deco, Moderne etc... styled buildings there- the Bradbury building interior nearly brought me to my knees, Wow!- then on to the Central Food Market so full of life, smells and sounds.
After checking out the beautiful Central Library- Bertram Goodhue with its touch of Egyptian Revival exoticness we headed across the street to the historic Art Deco gas company building and of course there was car commercial being filmed on the street as well as a movie scene inside- so L.A.!- I loved our spunky tour docent who tramped right in over all the electrical cords much to the loud consternation of the uppity film crew- she just ignored all their protests and made our way through the tour she was determined for us to have.
After the tour we continued on our own to the the Gehry Disney Hall, Angels flight and MOCA- there really is a lot to downtown L.A. that most folks don't have any idea about.

The Bradbury Bldg is so understated from the outside, it was built during the 1890's These are some shots I took about a couple of years ago. The wrought iron work is amazing.
The building on the left is the Bradbury
You also mentioned the Los Angeles Central Library designed by Bertram Goodhue, I think it was built in the 1920's I also shot a few pics during the same outing
Denver, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, & Minneapolis (and others) can definently compete with The good and even the very good section.
Phoenix? Really?
