Maine is the only state in the Union that borders only one other state (New Hampshire).
Alaska is the only continental state that borders NO other states but two other countries; Canada and Russia. The only state in fact that borders another continent, Asia.
Alaska is the only state that was actually invaded by Axis troops (Japan) during WWII. Although Hawaii was attacked by the Japanese Navy at Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway, she was never actually invaded by Japanese land forces.
I consider Alaska to be the second best choice after Hawaii.
This is the first I've heard of this, although I find the subject of the Hawaiian monarchy fascinating.
How did Mormonism come to Hawaii?
The church sent missionaries to Hawaii in the 1850s and from there they spread to other parts of Polynesia. As a result, its not uncommon to find Hawaiians and other polyneisans that are 4th and 5th generation mormons.
The church has a significant presence on the North Shore of Oahu because it owns 6,000 acres of land there which now includes the Laie Hawaii Temple, which opened in 1919(first operating mormon temple outside of Utah) and Brigham Young University's Hawaii campus.
Hawaii has many regulatory economic policies and one of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. I generally think of it as one of the most liberal states, along with Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and many areas of California, New York, and New Jersey.
When I think of libertarian states I think Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and to a certain extent, Texas, Vermont, and Maine.

You could be right, but Hawaii voted down gay marriage and has a republican governor(just like CA ironically). I think its liberal on certain issues, but not all. Just like all states, Hawaii really is more than an one-word label.
