Which cities in this country do you feel will have the best potential for job growth and growing economy? Bare in mind not to reflect on real estate & banking booms as Phoenix, Vegas, and Miami are learning hard lessons in that respect, not to mention potential water shortages.

What cities will tap into green energy, natural resources, rebound manufacturing, bio sciences and any other ideas.

All Texas Cities
Pittsburgh
Columbus
Indianapolis
Oklahoma City
Cincinnati (lots of fortune 500 companies)
Minneapolis (lots of fortune 500 companies)
Sacramento
Boston
Seattle

I just look at cities with diverse economies that have stable growth, and really didn't go through the boom/bust cycle like a lot of cities out west and down south did.

Cities that I can see progressing in this decade would be:

Charlotte (already doing some awesome things)
Cleveland (look out in the bio-tech field)
Philadelphia (proving that it is a major player in the international market)
Milwaukee (living in Chicago's shadow long enough, will make a new name for itself)

High growth for industries stated in OP:
Washington, DC
Raleigh/Durham
Austin
Dallas
Houston
Seattle

Smaller metros (under 1 million)
Huntsville
Madison
Boise

Large, established and staying strong
SF Bay area
Boston
NYC
Los Angeles
Atlanta (might be better listed in high growth?)
Chicago
Minneapolis

Let's see how the economy shakes out before adding these cities:
Charlotte
Portland
Tampa Bay area
Jacksonville

I am sure I forgot some. These are off the top of my head.

This question has got Houston written all over it.

I know! I read that and thought "you mean Houston?....because that pretty much sums up our economy already as it is....and it's only growing..."

Before I opened this thread, I saw the title and I said to myself, this thread will be Houston domination. And guess what? It is, because everything the OP described in his last question, is so very much HOUSTON!

I figured as much that Houston could lead the way, sorta goes without saying. No doubt Dallas and Austin will also have successful growth.

How about Denver? Seems Colorado is capitalizing on new and green energy also, especially solar.

Also I wonder what will drive the economy in places like Boston, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Seattle, Atlanta, and Chicago as mentioned from previous posters to retain their strength.
