This is like two really stupid threads rolled into one. So...
1. Chicago is Chicago and New York is New York. They are extraordinarily different cities, but they often confuse idiots (like the woman interviewed on TV) into thinking they're alike because they both have tall skylines. And then we get yet another thread on the subject. Usually from people familiar with New York who've never set foot in Chicago. Calling Chicago a "Little New York" makes as much sense as calling Boston a little Philadelphia.
2. Chicago has a higher crime rate than New York. But just like New York, most violent crime is concentrated in marginal or challenged neighborhoods that most tourists--and many average residents--never, ever venture into. Which is little comfort to residents in those neighborhoods but lots of comfort to everyone else.
Oh, and...
3. Even so, only an idiot wouldn't be mindful of their wallet on public transit, either here in Chicago or anywhere else on earth.
