Hello Folks,

At the request of a previous poster, I started a new thread to share demographic information about Northeast Ohio communities. As my colleagues and I continue to process the 2020 Census count, I will occasionally share interesting data and statistics that help illustrate changes Northeast Ohio has experienced during the 2010-2020 period. My study area is the seven-county region that includes Cuyahoga County and the counties that border it (Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit).

Here are the 10 communities in Northeast Ohio with the highest representation of Asian residents. The first number after each jurisdiction's name indicates the change in that jurisdictional population's "Asian only" percentage between 2010 and 2020; the second number after each jurisdiction's name indicates the "Asian only" percentage of that jurisdiction's total 2020 population. Except for Copley and Middleburg Heights, all of these jurisdictions are eastern/northeastern suburbs of Cleveland and Akron.

1. Glenwillow: +7.5 (17.9%)
2. Solon: +6.5 (16.5%)
3. Reminderville: +9.6 (14.9%)
4. Beachwood: +4.3 (11.7%)
5. Pepper Pike: +3.8 (9.3%)
6. Middleburg Heights: +3.2 (8.8%)
7. Mayfield Heights: +1.7 (8.7%)
8. Orange: +2.0 (7.7%)
9. Copley: +0.7 (7.4%)
10. Twinsburg: +1.2 (6.9%)

I welcome your questions and comments.

DR J

Dr. J, this is great! I think it's interesting to see these trends evolve. I guess from my perspective I'd be curious to see how this looks for other demographic groups (and perhaps if there are any specific decreases in percentages). Also, I'd be curious if you have found ways to isolate variables like density in census tracts and overall population within them, to see where inner-city growth is happening most significantly (or, OTOH, where most significant losses are occurring, though I do like to think positive first.

Thank you for sharing. I love toying around with census stuff myself, and BEA/economic numbers also. That said, I am working on a doctorate myself and so if you are down to do some of that "dirty work" on here yourself, I look forward to anything you have to share!
