The last post in this thread was almost a year ago, you brought it up to mention something like that?!?! Please tell us why you think it is only going to get worse. But I mean I guess you could say that for any city really. Cleveland has had over 4.3 billion dollars just go into downtown alone the last few years, things are moving quickly.

At least crime seems like its a lot better this year, either that or they just decided to stop reporting. I would like to see Cleveland finally get a new tall building. The Key Tower was really the last tall building that was built and that was like back in 1992 or something like that. NO other ones have been built other than that city building next to the Superior ave. bridge downtown. Downtown is starting to look nicer with all of those new condos and apartments right around downtown.

I was thinking the same thing about how the crime rate is better this year, lets hope it stays that way. In 2002 the Federal Building on the banks of the Cuyahoga was built. It is over 400'. With all the new companies moving into downtown, the talks of a new highrise, I mean to the height of Key Tower or even greater are in the works. Talk was brought up last year in 2007.

As a fan of a waterfront/boardwalk along the lake, I've always said that they should put in a Aquarium along the lake. Either the city could own it, or the Metroparks (their aquarium in the zoo is quite pathetic). Either way it would add to the amount of cultural attractions already in Cleveland.
While Cleveland does have its cultural attractions, its mostly for the people around the Greater Cleveland Area. In order for people to be attracted to the city, and then spend more of their money, we could build a world sightseeing attraction. While this part is mostly an impossibility, it would be neat to build a structure topping the CN, or Dubai Towers.
In reality however, crime is the first thing that needs to be realized and dealt with in the city. The mayor has shown a lack of or unwillingness to confront the crime in this city, often not getting behind the police in their efforts to combat the rampant crime that is plaguing the city.

Great Post! An aquarium on the lakefront is a really good idea. I do not like the CN Tower idea though, that would just look odd in Cleveland. You look at Cleveland's Lakefront now, and it is already bustling. The new Cleveland Lakefront Plan will have Cleveland's Lakefront start running along side with Chicago's.

The crime isnt as much an issue as the lack of jobs is and the economy is. Getting more jobs into the city is the key to solving all of the other problems. With jobs there will be less poverty, less decay, less abandonment, and less crime. Large parts of the city look like an industrial wasteland filled with crumbling factories and boarded up houses, all that needs to be cleaned up.

Yeah, the federal building was the one I was thinking of. The downtown needs another tall building to show that the city is progressing. I was thinking of something a little bit shorter than the key tower. I think we need some more high rises before we get one of those huge skyscrapers, it would look kind of weird now.

The job thing is a big issue. Cleveland while it is getting some new businesses needs to make it even more tempting for others to set up shop here. I really could see more of a high tech/service industries coming here, however we could also regain some of our old manufacturing too. That however is on the hands of the Federal Gov't to remedy the trade problems with countries like China. Its really a big folly and national security threat to let all of our heavy industry go over seas. This country and its citizens need to realize that while they want cheap lead tainted things from China, its not in our nations interest to do that.

On the skyscraper topic though, I'm really not a fan of the modern city look with the huge buildings and such, more so of the European or just older quaint beautiful buildings like some of which Cleveland and other cities have. I think that while new buildings in Cleveland obviously will be "modern", they can have more classical characteristics. A modern Cleveland with new high rises, and also nice "older" looking buildings would make the city look quite good.

I guess it doesnt really matter, but I would like to see the density of the buildings downtown to increase. The parking lots arent as bad as some cities are, but still downtown has too many surface parking lots and they take up too much space. I would like to see some more parking garages to free up some valuable space.
