I'm going to Raleigh for 6 days in July and planning on going to the beach for 2 days as well. I was looking online for hotels and was a little confused. Is Wilmington right on the beach? Or is Wrightsville beach seperating Wilmington from the ocean? I was looking at hotels in Wrightsville Beach and they are extremely expensive. But hotels in Wilmington are much cheaper.

So then I was thinking of maybe staying in Wilmington and then driving to the beach during the day, or maybe taking a taxi. Which is the better option? How far would Wilmington be from the actual ocean?

Wilmington is not right on the beach. Yes, you could stay in a hotel in Wilmington for a very reasonable price but the problem at Wrightsville is parking. I am not sure how much a taxi would cost but you could check. (If you went to Wrightsville real early in the morning -- I meet friends to walk there at 8am, there is parking -- don't know how that would work for you.)

Which area would be more fun for two 24 year old girls? Wrightsville or Topsail Island? We want to relax on the each and then go out for dinner and maybe a few drinks. Is there really only 2 parking lots for Wrightsville Beach?

Yes, parking is tough on Wrightsville....but WB would be more fun for your age than Topsail - it is much more family oriented and mellow....if you could stay some where near Mayfaire Town Center, you would have pretty easy access to both Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington....

You can park on the side streets at Wrightsville as well. The parking is free after 6 pm there. I'd suggest staying in Wilmington and then just driving to WB. Its not that far at all.

There are other beaches around Wilmington besides WB. But, WB is where it is at for young-20s, like yourself. Some houses there sell their driveway spots, so that is an option. But they usually start around $15 and go up from there

Try Surf city on Topsail Island, it has plenty of 20-30 yo and parking is not a problem.
