We're from NJ looking to relocate to Grenville, NC. Looking for information about Greenville area. We're family of 6, me and my husband with 4 boys (age ranges from 11 to 16). Information on school, crime rate, weather, shoping, surrounding areas. We are also considering surrounding areas. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
In a nutshell: Greenville, has no culture, nothing to do, people are not friendly, schools stink, crime is high, high prices(this isn't Raleigh people!). I am a 36yr. old professional here (masters degree in counseling) and jobs are not plentiful, unless you are in medicine and work at the hospital. I work with kids and there are plenty of problems with the school systems. The only way to be happy here is to join a church and really get involved (be warned this is a good ol boy ran town, so is church) or really get involved with ECU football. No shopping either. It's really according to the type of person you are as to whether you will fit in. My husband and I are into being around different types of people and learning about them and getting together in an intimate setting to have meaningful discussions, shop, enjoy different cultural events, and start our family in a warm town. That just isn't available here. I wouldn't put my kids in the schools here and I live in one of the nicer areas near south central high and creekside elem. ECU isn't in a safe area either, so be aware. I worked a job within mental health that often took me to the street that runs by ECU. Lots of crime there. We are looking to leave as soon as we can find a job somewhere else.

I couldn't have said it better! I have one more year to do and I am out of here.
My experience has been completely different. I find most people here to be the very opposite, actually. I remember when I first moved here I actually struck up conversation with people at the DMV and remembered thinking this place was a lot friendlier than where I had just moved from (Norfolk, VA).
I don't understand the lack of shopping, though. I think it's just because there isn't much around the area...the metrolpolitan area doesn't have a large population.
I don't understand the comment about high prices either....real estate is cheaper here than in Raleigh or other areas of the State. Gas prices seem a little higher, though.
