Pretty sure the vast majority of kids at ECU still come from in-state and the majority of them are from Eastern NC. And definitely not a bunch of Richie Riches.

lol yea, but i guess we're comparing them to the lower income city dwellers

I'm not trying to pick a fight but I really don't like these kind of responses. There are plenty of "smart" people who try to avoid "bad areas" of town that have trouble come their way. I understand that there are things that can be done to help avoid getting involved with crime but overall, in my opinion, this has to be done on a more conscious and consistent basis for a city this size that what I think would be typical.
My opinion is certainly reflected when you compare the statistics of the crime rate for the area compared to national averages. I have lived in both VERY small rural town (without a stop light) as well as DFW area in Texas in an apartment with >12 strip clubs within 1-2 mile radius and I still felt safer there than I do here. I think a lot of it just comes down to people overall and the friendliness or lack there of that you experience from the people you come in contact with on a daily basis.
