I am going for a job interview in greenville NC and have been researching the city. I have read a lot about it's crime rate and just worried. Are there any safe areas there. Pls help.

Since the OP is a rookie, perhaps he/she does not know how to search the site. The latest discussion was here: https://www.city-data.com/forum/coast...reenville.html Another was here: https://www.city-data.com/forum/coast...e-about-2.html

There certainly are safe areas; just use common sense.

Not this.

Greenville is the first town in eastern NC to gain considerable size (over 100K people, counting students and Winterville), and most of the growth is pretty recent (last 25 years). We have big-town (not big-time) problems now and the rural folks in the surrounding towns and communities (where most of worrisome chatter comes from) don't know what to make of all the changes. We have growing pains. We have crime, especially if you're another criminal or a convenience store clerk. Stay out of the run-down neighborhoods, don't walk around at night, and stay around decent people in decent places; then you'll be alright.

its not the greatest but there are enough decent areas. you should certainly be able to find them. the big problem with greenville is the lack of decent jobs, and since you'll already have that covered you're one step ahead

A better question: Are you smart? If so, Greenville is plenty safe. If you are not smart, it could get iffy. In the south, the "good" sections and the "bad" sections, especially in smaller towns are often very close together. This freaks out many immigrants, but that is how it is, and it has always been. The key, of course, is your own intelligence. Just be smart.

Also don't be standing on the corner slangin' dem rocks. That'll reduce your chances of being a victim of crime 80-90%.

It is much like some other college towns. That is what it is known for. East Carolina University. There you basically have 3 different cultures living close together. The college kids with money many of which aren't even from NC . You have the city folks of lower income levels and a basic ethnic origin living in lower income housing and then you have the middle class locals who feed off of the college kid money. This especially includes the tow truck operators, car repair shops, popular food eateries, parking lots and housing rentals....There is a high demand for rentals so go figure why you wont find a big selection. They do have plenty of cops because college kids keep them busy so I figure it should be a rather safe place to live if you stay rather close to the college. (thats where the money is)Once you leave the town you are in farming country . Plenty of hog farms which makes it a great place for eastern style nc BBQ..
