New Bern has a hospital and numerous doctors, while Farmville has only a few doctors and no hospital. Farmville would have to use the Greenville hospital, but it it excellent.

New Bern is about an hour from Atlantic Beach, while Farmville is 2 hours.

I believe that New Bern has far more interesting amenities like good restaurants, an excellent regional library, and sports options like sailing and golf.

Thx. New Bern sounds promising; I'd just have to drive faster to the beach. Farmville is definitely out. Will investigate New Bern, and any others you all can come up with.

One BIG advantage of New Bern is the time it takes to get to either Raleigh or Wilmington. The improvements and bypasses on US 70 have made Raleigh a very easy two hours plus a few minutes. US 17 to Wilmington is being worked on now, with every improvement reducing the drive time.

If you are young, in your lifetime you will see the same improvements to US 70 between New Bern and the coast. Drive times will plummet without the aggrevation of James City and Havelock!
