looking to move to the wilmington area (crime rate, home)

Howdy yall me and my gf are looking to moving to somewhere in the wilmington/carolina beach area

i will give yall a bit of info bout ourselves

We are both 24 i am a massage therapist and she is in public realations

She is from nyc and im from corpus christi, texas

we both love the beach and outdoor types of things
and also dancing and bars and just love walking, biking, hiking ect ect

i have lived on the beach being from corpus she has not

we are looking to move somewhere near the carolina beach area due to low housing cost and close to the beach! any negative things on carolina beach?

so i have a couple of ?s

1. being from the 3rd state of the worse hurricanes ( texas) 1st being florida 2nd being louisanna and 3rd being texas and 4th being north carolina

are the hurricanes that bad and frequent in the wilmington area?

threw out the 24 years of my life ive been threw lots lots and lots of hurricanes so not as much as a big deal to me but we litterally got them every year or major tropical storms and i only had to leave my home once which was hurricane rita and it did nothing to my house.

2. Crime rate. i hear lots of people say the crime rate is horrible in wilmington but my ? is what city are they comparing to? i mean if crime was soo bad why do college students and other people move there? Being from corpus christi which has alot of poverty and crime i still would live in corpus cause u just need to stay away from certain areas and my gf bein from nyc so ya just curious what people of wilmington consider high crime rate lol i mean come on if u go to the ghetto what do u expect will happen to you but would love yalls thoughts bout the subject

3. jobs. As i said before i am a massage therapist basiclly if there are chiropracters spas ect ect i can get a job and i would imagine wrightsville beach i could find a job as a massage therapist but not to sure about my gf which is in public realations so any thoughts on both?

4. schools. we do not have any children but might start planning when we r 28-29 so schools are important and im not looking into the best schools ever just dont want my kids going to lower than average schools
