Barring a blowout Clemson/Bama should finish 1/2. then Stanford and Ohio State should be 3/4.

But who gets that 5th slot?

Do you drop Oklahoma only one spot after the 2nd half drubbing? Michigan State only 2 spots after getting shut out?

Or do you vault TCU or Houston or Baylor all the way to 5 after their impressive wins?
People care about the rankings below the national champion?

I do when it impacts how my team is positioned at the beginning of the new season.

And I don't understand people's hangup with the AP poll at the beginning of the season. Doesn't directly correlate to playoff poll that comes out later in the season. Also, if you're a fan of a Power 5 Conference team, the road is fairly simple -- run the table, win your conference and get in the CFP.

Don't know who would be #5 this season, but watch out for LSU next. Its roster looks like it'll be loaded in the fall. Miles could hoist his second national championship trophy. Great fans, by the way.

The polls at the beginning of the season have absolutely zero impact on how the CFP committee ranks the teams in November.
