im curious as to how work study is setup tax wise. I currently will need to find another part-time job aside from my work study so i can pay my expenses. between both id be working nearly full-time (35-39 hrs/week).
would i need to say my 2nd job is my 2nd job? or first? anyone do this before?
A paycheck is a paycheck. You'd have to report your work-study wages along with those from your 2nd job; both are income. But there may be an allowable deduction for work-study. You'd have to ask a tax preparer, if your school financial aid office can't tell you.
I did work-study and had a part-time job last school year, but I was not aware of any additional deductions. It would be a good idea to ask though, and post an answer if you get one
When my kids were in college, there was no difference between a work study job and a regular one.
