I have a friend who lives either in Vail or just outside. From what I heard, the neighborhood is having a major problem with the houses slipping/ moving.

Anyone know any details of this situation?

My property managers in Vail haven't heard of this type of problem.

Considering that most of the Vail build-out is on bedrock, I'd bet that the problem is either localized to a particular structure ... or, most likely, isn't in Vail proper.

Do you have an address/street location where your friend is staying so I can check this out for you?

I'll have to find out exactly what city/ town he lives in. But here is what he said in a note:

Quote:
Our house (like many in this neighborhood) must now go through some severe re-work due to "slippage" on the West Facing Slope... (Brad... this is bad)... Our foundation is in trouble and the house has moved almost 2 inches... I'm "upset"...

Many of our neighbors have had to "dig out" and now we must do the same... Lots of stuff is going to have to go while all of this is going on... I just today received the letter from the Engineers that inspected our peers, etc. and while the last time we went through this we sort of skirted the really hard (read bad) work - this time - we are going to have to put some 12 storage units on the basketball-tennis court and start packing up...

Well, now you've got my curiosity going about just where this housing area is located.

In view of the fact that Vail is laid out in a narrow valley along an East-West axis, it means that most of the housing is laid out on either North or South facing slopes. Your friend indicates a "West Facing Slope" as having the slippage problem ...

Also, the house foundation is mentioned as being on "piers" ... which is not common in the Vail area since the foundations are set on bedrock in most of the areas I've been in. No doubt, there might be exceptions in the soils close to the creek bottoms along Gore Creek ... but those would be "North" facing structures.
