Is anyone raising money for the 12 people wounded up there the other week? How about for the police officer who got shot by fireworks by a teenager? Or were they afraid to publicize it anymore?

Any backhanded motives for posting this aside, it is nice to see members of the community reaching out to help.

Oh it's a hell of a lot more than just 5 or 6 neighborhoods. In the Leave it to Beaver era it was a lot more than a half dozen neighborhoods. Back then it was possible to isolate yourself to some degree from violent crime. Not so anymore. I could give a community by community analysis but it would be found boring in the Columbia forum and totally unwelcome in the Chicago forum.

Of the 77 official "community areas" recognized by the city, I stand by the statement that maybe 5-6 of them account for the majority of the crime. If you waved a magic wand and all of a sudden Englewood, Garfield Park, Washington Park, Fuller Park, and a few others, the per capita crime rate would be much lower.

But you're right. This isn't really a topic for this thread or this forum.

From what I have seen of his parents they don't appear to be the type to step aside and just let things happen. I hope that once (if) the attackers are convicted they file civil law suits against the animals (and their parents) to recover damages for his medical bills. Lawsuits that seize current wealth and attach future earnings. Carter will live with this all his life, his attackers should too.

I totally agree with you. Sadly, these kids look like they come from homes with nothing (no current wealth) and little if any future earning potential.

They should definitely have to face some sort of punishment that they live with, I agree, for committing such a barbaric, animlaistic type crime against a random jogger, like Carter.

Sadly, the US has developed a permanent underclass due to numerous reasons.....but that is another topic for another forum.
