I'm sorry but that thing is UGLY. Looks like one of those old high rise apartments poor and old people live in. No way the DRB approves this.
I think the thing that makes it not attractive is lack of balconies. Not sure why one would not include a balcony in a complex like this. I am sure they will command a high rent. If they would add that, it would provide a little more dimension and glass, and I am sure it would look great!
It looks out of place and fails to recall anything around it. It's as though the developer is trying to make a point by seeing how boring they can be with the windows after the first design that had the windows way too jumbled. Now it's bland and boring.
The tower is super boxy and generic, I could design something better even though I'm only a sophomore in architecture school. But I will say that it looks better than the old design.
Well it looks like it fits in very well with our skyline seeing that everything in our skyline is boxy an unappealing except for the Bank of America building and to an extent the NBSC building.
The first picture reminds me of Patterson Hall pre-renovation at USC. Except now, Patterson looks better than this. This new rendering looks like a bigger, taller and uglier Patterson Hall. I really hope they put some more pizzazz because the second picture looks like the person designing these renderings fell asleep at his computer and sent the unfinished picture to his boss as soon as he woke up so he would meet the deadline.
I agree that the Bank of America building is probably the prettiest "skyscraper" in downtown Columbia.
I take it that this new building, if approved, will be visible in the skyline but it wont block the taller buildings on the other side of the street.
