My family and I are relocating to Lexington SC. We have 2 school aged children. If anyone lives in Lexington can you tell me about the town, which community might be best for families with children, that would be convenient to local stores, employment, banking, etc.
There are many homes being built close to the brand new Caroling Springs Elementary and Middle Schools in Lexington. Both Principals are dynamic.
A brand new Wal Mart Super Center is scheduled to open any day now.
Willow Ridge Church is a great environment for families to be involved.
Lexington has become one of the major "suburbs" of Columbia, in that quite a high percentage of the residents of Lexington commute to Columbia for work every weekday. (If you have any doubt, hang out on US1, 378, and I-20 between 7-9 and 4-6).
Depending on your field, you'll find much more job opportunities in Columbia than in Lexington itself. If you find yourself commuting to Columbia with the throngs of other commuters in Lexington, you might want to focus on the West Columbia/Cayce side of Lexington that will give you less time in the car and more time at home.
My wife and I have recently concluded a house-shopping expedition for our first home. We saw around 50 houses over a 2 month period and ended up buying in Lexington's Corley Woods Subdivision. The neighborhood is in Lexington District 1, which seems to have some of the best schools around.
We were most interested in neighborhoods that would be a good place to raise a family (being newly-weds in our 20's...). The top 3 subdivision we liked were: Corley Woods, Mallard Lakes and Woodcreek. All 3 are on the Columbia side of Lexington and would have a decent commute (Mallard lakes is on 378 which is a bit more traffic than US 1 where Corley Woods and Woodcreek are...). These three were in our range of upper 100's to mid 200's. There are several other neighborhoods around this area, some in a higher price range, and others in lower. Even within these neighborhoods you would find a few nicer homes that would push or break the 300 mark.
