I keep seeing job postings for Columbus State Community College. They always post very detailed job descriptions, but they seem to be boilerplate, and the pay for most positions is atrocious. I've seen as low as $8.50 an hour posted for administrative and secretarial positions, and $12-$13/hour for some much more responsible positions.

The pay scale seems to be one reason to avoid CSCC as an employer, but are there other reasons to avoid them? Or does anyone know of people who have had a positive experience working for them? Wondering about working conditions, quality of managers/supervisors, reasonable expectations, respect for employees, opportunities for promotion, etc.

Thanks.

They actually pay faculty pretty well, from people I know who've worked there (mostly young people with their Masters who've taught lower level classes). You might be seeing some of the jobs aimed at students who are going to school there, flexible scheduling and such, hours around their classes. I've heard nothing but great things from my friends!

Well, that's interesting, and I'm glad to hear that! I was just suspicious because there are so many CSCC positions posted regularly on HigherEdJobs, and it made me wonder if there was tremendous turnover or some other issue.

Maybe they just cross-post their positions (even the ones aimed at student employment) to HigherEdJobs as well.

Thanks for the info!

John

No prob. They might have a higher turnover than the average CC, but I feel it's most likely due to people using it as a stepping stone to working/teaching somewhere else. Could be wrong.
