Spring and Long Downtown Could See Further Bike Improvements | ColumbusUnderground.com

So the terrible painted bike lanes will actually get upgraded with larger plans for Long and Spring streets. The city wants to do dedicated lanes and a road diet. Apparently, the sharrows are just a temporary thing in order to get feedback as well as to buy time for the city to get equipment to maintain dedicated lanes, which it currently doesn't have.

The Ohio History Museum, now located off E. 17th at the state fairgrounds, is considering a move to Downtown, probably by the riverfront in Franklinton. No further details are available yet.

Neighborhood Launch Plans to Add Six-Story Storage Building | ColumbusUnderground.com

Kind of a strange proposal, imo. A 6-story high-end storage facility, complete with climate-controlled wine spaces, has been proposed for the surface lot at the southeast corner of Young and E. Long Street. It will be part of the Neighborhood Launch complex that will eventually include close to 2,000 residential units.

On one hand, it's great that one more surface lot is going away, and with a decent design, it could look good. Not that many details are out yet about it, but I also hope it would include ground-floor retail. On the other hand, it's not mixed-use residential, which is a bit disappointing. Either way, it's due to be completed by the end of 2015.

Mayor Coleman to announce he won't run next year | The Columbus Dispatch

So it seems that Columbus' longest-serving mayor won't seek another term after it runs out next year. Coleman has been generally a very popular mayor and was the catalyst for putting focus on the city, but especially the urban core areas. Obviously not everything has gone right, but the city is in great shape today largely under his leadership. This announcement raises the question of who the candidates might be for his successor and just what changes they might bring for the direction of the city. I would really hate to see someone who goes back to the old thinking of suburbs.
