Forbes Magazine recently listed Columbus Ohio as the most affordable place to retire in the United States.. As I am looking for potential places to retire to while my daughter attends college, I was wondering if local residents can attest to this survey or not. Not just for reasonable housing prices but for medical care and activities also. Thanks

Columbus is pretty cheap, but the Youngstown area is actually cheaper. I'm not saying move to the city of Youngstown, but many of the suburbs are very nice. Plus the Youngstown/Warren metro is an hour from both cleveland and pittsburgh. We also have great highway access since I-80 and several other major roads go through our area.

I have lived several places and Columbus is very affordable. I am talking my parents into moving here from St. Louis to retire. St. Louis is cheap to live in the not so desirable areas. To live somewhere nice, it's much cheaper here. Good luck with your search. if you pm me, I can send you some itneresting info on Columbus that might help you in your decision.
